The formal launching ceremony for the Mahasiddha Sanctuary for Universal Peace, under the direction of His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche, took place at the Pool House of the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong on June 13, 2014.

It was a festive celebration, with a host of distinguished guests, including the Nepalese Consul-General His Excellency Mahesh Prasad Dahal; Indian Consul-General to Hong Kong His Excellency Prashant Agrawal and his wife; the chairman of Non-Resident Nepalese Association Hong Kong, Mr. Durga Gurung; Former Secretary of Justice, Elsie Leung; Senior Counsel Mr. Hing Hung; movie star Ray Lui and wife; Dr. Alice Chiu; Ms. Anita Tang; Mr. Michael Tong; Miss Vancouver Erica Chui; German architect Professor Stephan Braunfels; along with Rinpoche’s students and friends from around the world.

Mr. Clifton Kwan served as master of ceremonies, gave a joyful and impassioned introduction, and respectfully invited His Eminence into the venue to receive the guests. His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche shared his pure vision for the Mahasiddha Sanctuary—it will be a temple of peace that will geminate seeds of tolerance and understanding in the hearts and minds of people around the world. This is a sacred and meritorious undertaking that honors the Buddha’s birthplace in Lumbini, Nepal, and is the mother of all charitable projects.

Rinpoche invited everyone to deliver the message to their friends and colleagues, so everyone around the world will have a chance to participate in this project in their own way, be it a one positive thought, one smile, one dollar, or one sincere prayer for peace. Rinpoche’s heartfelt and passionate speech won enthusiastic praise and applause.

The MC then announced the unveiling of the architect’s model of Mahasiddha Sanctuary, and Rinpoche swiftly removed the yellow brocade to the delight and joy of guests. This marked the official start of fundraising for the planning and construction of Mahasiddha Sanctuary.

Then a short film about the Mahasiddha Sanctuary was previewed for the first time in public. The film was produced by the Mahasiddha Sanctuary Hong Kong Executive Committee. This film featured His Eminence speaking about the meaning and significance of the Sanctuary and it’s relevance for peace loving people everywhere. Soon the film will be available on youtube, facebook, twitter, and wechat—viewable throughout the world. Please share the news with your friends, family, and countrymen with a true feeling of celebration.

To inform everyone about this glorious project of Mahasiddha Sanctuary, Wencheng Gongzhu International Foundation launched the official website and a mobile device application at the ceremony. The program designer, Kent Cheng, introduced the website and explained how the application works. Now, everyone can contribute to the project and share it with others. Everyone is invited to spread the message, so that many can share in the good karma and positive energy.

From concept, design, planning, and groundbreaking, to the launching ceremony today, the Mahasiddha Sanctuary Project has received enthusiastic support from Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. So many have contributed their time, talents, and resources in support of this worthy project. This sublime project will generate immeasurable merit and good karma for everyone involved.

His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche spoke about the meaning of Mahasiddha Sanctuary for Universal Peace: “I pray that everyone can participate in this project with kindness, compassion and selfless love. May the seed of world peace and harmony sprout in everyone’s heart. In accordance with the Buddha’s teaching, this will bring harmony, tolerance and understanding, and heal the world.”

At the close of the ceremony, Rinpoche graciously posed for photos with distinguished guests, supporters, and friends and bestowed his compassionate blessings. May good wishes endure, may blessings flourish for lifetimes, and may we all have joyful and meaningful lives. May the construction of the Mahasiddha Sanctuary for Universal Peace be completed to perfection. We dedicate the merit for the relative benefit and the ultimate enlightenment of all parent sentient beings.
